Vacancy - Volunteer Steep Holm Bookings Secretary
The Role
Our Volunteer Bookings Secretary is retiring in September. The Trustees would love
to hear from anyone who feels they could have a few hours a week to become our new
Bookings Secretary.
If you have a passion for the outdoors, enjoy talking to people, and can use a telephone
and computer please contact us for an informal chat about the role.
The Trust will install a dedicated telephone line for you to make and receive calls
about bookings.
Many customers make enquiries and send booking forms by email so you will need to
be happy using a computer.
The Bookings Secretary also works with our sailing contractor to plan the trips for
the year, and manages a bookings diary to make sure trips have enough volunteers
to help on the island and crew the boats.
This is a unique volunteer role that will suit someone who has some time to talk
to people with questions about the island. You will need to be methodical and organised.
Whilst not essential to visit the island, you will be welcome to join us on trips
to help visitors get the most out of their day.
We will provide training and will be on hand to help with any aspects of the job.
The Trust is a registered charity and relies on the generosity of volunteers that
give their time to manage the island. Please contact us if you feel you can help
us with the role.
For more information, or an informal chat please call our bookings line on 01934
522125 or email us at: volunteer@steepholm.org.uk

We recently received this very nice email from one of our visitors:
From the exhilarating ride on the boat to the wade through the waves to get to the island as the tide had come in to the seagulls pecking our heads, the 1000s of nests, birds and fledglings, the remains of past military fortifications, to the excellent facilities on the island and last but no means least the pleasant manner and helpfulness of the people from the Trust who accompanied us on the boats etc. and to yourself for the efficient and friendly way in which you deal with the bookings.
It is a day we shall remember for a very long time. We are so pleased that after our aborted trip last year that we re booked this year!!
It was an island we had seen for so many years on visits to Weston and now we have finally visited it and view it in a different way now from the sands of Weston.
Our very best wishes to you and the Trust members for the future.
So, if you want a really good day out and haven't already booked a trip please head over to our website....

We had an absolutely fantastic day out and we are recommending a trip to Steep Holm to everyone in our conversations about what we did during the half term holiday!

Steep Holm trip - 5th July 2012
Here are a selection of photos taken on the last trip to Steep Holm. This was the 3rd trip this year with 10 trips now cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.
Hopefully, the weather will improve and the remaining trips will go ahead as planned. While the island has been left in peace the peregrines have been busy with some 80+ gull carcasses found. During the day of this visit, a peregrine could be seen circling the sky, its chick nestled safely on a small ledge.
